My goal is to build a portfolio of projects that each bring in a steady revenue stream. All of these projects are online and can be run from my laptop. I’ll briefly cover my current business ventures below:
Affiliate websites are focused around a specific topic or project and their goal is to attract visitors interested in that particular topic or product and then provide them with useful information. After their attention is gained and they establish that the website is of good quality and trustworthy the aim is to recommend products that they are potentially interested in.
If they are interested in a particular product (whether that be a software or a physical product) they are then directed to the website of the company that sell the product, and if they go on to make a purchase I will be paid a % commission on the sale price. This is how affiliate marketing works and it is a fantastic way to earn money online without having to own and sell your own product.
I have setup and maintain several affiliate websites that each target a different area of interest and each generate money.
ECommerce is all about selling online and this is exactly what I am doing. I am currently establishing an ECommerce brand. This is taking place on Amazon.co.uk at the moment but it will continue to grow and move onto other marketplaces, including my own ECommerce website.
This business requires the import of products from China and the promotion on Amazon and other channels to drive sales. This is a more complex and money intensive process compared to affiliate marketing, but it is something that anyone can get into if they follow a set process.
I love to teach and feel I have plenty to tell, so making online courses seems like a sensible thing to do. I currently have one course that shows people how to get started in affiliate marketing. The course walks through the entire process of creating an Amazon affiliate website and assumes the person following the course is new to the whole process.
Basically it is the starting platform for anyone who wants to get in to ‘earning money online’. By the end of the course you will have a website live on the internet that is full of content and attracting visitors. Oh, and it will hopefully be earning commissions.
I have always had ambitions of creating software and/or apps but I am not a developer. This means I need to either pay someone to develop something for me or partner with someone and work on it as a joint venture.
I am lucky to live in Hull. Most people I expect have never been to Hull or have negative opinions about it, but I love it and ever since I moved here 10+ years ago I have thought it is a great place. That aside some exciting things are happening at the moment, not least the rise of the digital campus.
C4DI (Centre for Digital Innovation) is a co-working/digital startup/entrepreneurial facility on the banks of the Humber (right where the River Hull merges into it). A brand new C4DI building has opened and I am a member. I have access to the co-working space (hot desks) and all other perks, including member meetups and networking.
Anyway I mention this because the place is full of talented developers, some of whom are working on their own statups while others are doing consultancy/freelance work. I got chatting in the coffee area to a developer who mentioned he wanted to work on something personal while still doing consultancy work that pays his bills.
Fast forward a month or two and I briefly mentioned to this developer that I had an idea for an app/website and I might drop him and email. A few days later I did send them an email outlining my idea and we setup a meeting. Long story short we agree to work on it together, him doing the product development and me doing the marketing & promotion and other non-technical tasks.
Things are progressing nicely and a beta version of the app will be ready soon.
This may seem a little random but I have always been into analysing data and also sports betting. Over the years I have looked into how to get the best out of the odds and results across many sports, but my passion is with football and therefore most of my strategies involve football betting.
I have developed a method of selecting a football match that when combined with a sensible staking strategy results in a profit. I have tested and continue to test this selection process and have started to allow people to sign up to get my football tips. I have even started taking paying subscriptions.
This is an ongoing project but things are looking good. The reason I am looking to turn this into a subscription business rather than just betting myself is because the ROI of each bet is at a level where I’d need to stake pretty high values to make a very good return. So a better option is to allow lots of other people to benefit and make some profits while paying me to get the selections. This is much more scalable and a better way of running this business.
I have to be honest I have a million and one ideas but I need to stay focused now. I already have too many things that I am personally working on and it is getting to the stage where I need to find people to manage a few project. My affiliate websites are probably the area I will hire someone to maintain while I continue to grow my ECommerce and online courses businesses. And of course I will look to grow and establish the app that me and my business partner are developing.
